1.4 Tea with Undistracted by Bob Goff
Welcome to Tea with Tasoni, a book club for Orthodox Christians. My name is Laura, and this week we’re finishing up our reading of Bob Goff’s book Undistracted. If you want to grab your own copy and read along, head to teawithtasoni.com. You’ll also find past books there!
Since we’ve read to the end of the book, I want to focus on next steps with you. What will we DO with what we’ve learned here.
Ch. 16 Driven Out of the Shallows: The stories we tell ourselves become the rules we make up to trap us.
What TRUTH would we speak into our lives today if we were 10 years older looking back on now?
Ch. 17 Oh my Gosh! Don’t let people who don’t get you distract you. Make a plan for how you’ll deal with it. Practice standing up for yourself, your vision, your dream.
You don’t need thicker skin; you need a bigger perspective.
Ch. 18 Five Minutes from Now: Don’t let your job become your identity. Let your purpose define your job (and other choices). And choose your FAMILY.
Be humble and don’t be distracted trying to look a certain way to others.
Ch. 19 Finish Your Work: Stop deferring the dream. Work it till the end. Stay the course. “I’m doing important work and I can’t come down.” Nehemiah. Reminds me of: “Come down now, they’ll say / Everything looks perfect from far away / Come down now, but we’ll stay” - The Postal Service, “Such Great Heights”
This is how you honor GOD. By finishing the work He has given you.
Epilogue: I texted Bob for fun to thank him for this great book. His bottom line message in the book: Refuse to be distracted.
