A New Generation - A Needed Revival
I promised myself I wouldn't say anything else on the election, but Tasoni Phoebe published this post today that is both challenging and true. Regardless of what happens in the election next week, God is in charge, and He is the authority to which I submit all my requests. And this is what I need to do. Yes, with all my heart. Yes, even when my heart hurts. If I truly love my God and my country, I have no other choice. Today also, Mireille Mishriky kindly featured my Sunday school program on her blog. Go check out her review.
I am hard at work packing up kits headed from Alberta, CA to New South Wales, AU. I'm also working on some top-secret bonus content... Hehe :)[gallery link="none" size="large" ids="3071,3073,3072"]When I read your e-mails and comments about the program, when I process your orders, I get really choked up. I wanted to make a video, but then I figured I'd cry on the video and maybe that wasn't the best idea.Once upon a time, when I was young and foolish, I thought I was the only person who cared about the next generation. I remember as a desperate teenager wanting to write letters to Pope Shenouda, whom I adored, to ask him why he didn't love me enough to send me a permanent priest and a stable church as a child. I remember sitting in a room in my early 20s while a middle school boy cried because he wanted to be shepherded, but no one could commit to do it at the level he needed. The hunger of a child seeking spiritual growth and not finding it is an unbearable sight to me.But when I get your messages--your e-mails, your texts, your comments--I think, "Oh Lord, could it be true? I'm not alone in these feelings?" And to read that you get it, that you feel the same. To know that YOU wherever you are, however you're doing it, are attacking the problem left and right. It means everything to me. I can't explain it more than that, but maybe if you read something I write and think, "Yes! Me too!" then you already get what I mean.I'm tired of reading about how wonderful Ancient Egypt was. I'm tired of reading how all the best saints lived under Diocletian. I'm tired of the desert fathers being old news. We're ready for a powerful modern Coptic Church. We're ready for contemporary saints who challenge us to live in God's light. We're ready for a new generation of monks, nuns, and laity alive in the Word of God, filled with the Holy Spirit. The world is crumbling, but we will prepare our children and stand mighty, unshaken, sheltered under the wings of the Lord, in the face of whatever comes. We will teach them about their history, not as a museum exhibit, but as a Manual for the journey of faith they will undertake.I feel this hope in me grow stronger as I get to know each of you. Not one of us is perfect, but in our unity and in our striving may God be glorified.
