Do THIS Before Thanksgiving Dinner
It's the wee hours of Thanksgiving Day, and I have a full schedule. This is a HUGE, HUGE blessing. For the last three years, Thanksgiving has meant sitting at home all day with the babies waiting for Abouna to return from speaking at a wonderful convention and doing the heartbreaking task of Skyping my family all gathered together somewhere else.I'm blessed this year to begin my Thanksgiving with a Divine Liturgy with Abouna and our congregation to thank God for another even more incredible year of miracles. I'm blessed to have not one but TWO visitors for Thanksgiving dinner. Yep, it did sound kind of pathetic as I was telling my daughter's teacher, but compared to years past this is the most wonderful thing I could imagine. I have a vegan menu planned, and it's SIMPLE and DELICIOUS and HAPPY. We will make the food together and enjoy it in a very relaxed way and NOT have a mountain of dishes to deal with after. Before you head off to do whatever is on your plate today, I'm asking you to print out this prayer and put it by your bed. As soon as I hit publish on this post, I will be doing the same. Bishop Gregory of an Eastern Orthodox diocese in Pennsylvania has asked his congregations to pray for peace EVERY night of the Nativity Fast for the sake of the world, for the sake of our homes, for the sake of our hearts. I can't imagine anything more desperately urgent than the need for the peace of Christ in the world. It's a brief but thorough prayer. Before you close your eyes each night for the next 43 days, ask God to bring His peace on this fitful planet. Intercede on behalf of your neighbors--whether those arguing deep into the night, those battling unspeakable pain in illness, or those fleeing war-ravaged nations. Ask God to plant peace and goodwill to mankind in each troubled heart.Happy Thanksgiving and have a blessed Nativity Fast! With love,Laura
