Speak, for Your servant hears...
In the past week, everything in my life has changed. Every plan that I made has been turned upside down. The future that I imagined was re-imagined by God.
Last week, I put in my resignation at the high school where I work. My husband informed our landlord that we would be moving. We began searching for an apartment in a different state--700 miles away.
"A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps." Proverbs 16:9
Like Samuel, waking in the middle of the night, hearing a voice he thought he understood, I thought I knew the extent of my assignment.
Last Spring, at about this time, I thought my husband, my daughter, and I had figured everything out. We lived in a beautiful city--small, quiet, open-minded, diverse. We worked for two powerful employers: my husband for the best public university in the United States, I for a school system and principal that loved and respected each student. We had a nice apartment, and we lived near our relatives. We served God in our spare time to the best of our abilities. We belonged to a church filled with people who loved God and each other, led by a priest so self-sacrificing that he put the rest to shame. We felt so blessed.
"The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it." Proverbs 10:22
But now our little family has a new assignment. We have been called by God to serve Him full-time. If it is God's will, this summer my husband will be ordained a priest in the Coptic Orthodox Church. This blessing is unbearably huge.
Like Samuel, God has spoken to us, and we have heard Him. In our life together, we have been striving to be closer to God, and now He is drawing us tightly to His embrace. Please pray for us.
I hope to use this blog to document this transition, and who knows? Maybe this is part of my new assignment.
May God bless your life richly. May you always hear His voice clearly. May the King of Peace reign in your heart and mine.
