Father, I Have Sinned...

"I will arise and go to my father,
and will say to him, 'Father,
I have sinned against heaven and before you,
and I am no longer worthy to be called your son.
Make me like one of your hired servants.'"
Luke 15:18-19

Our verse comes from the Gospel of the Divine Liturgy for the Third Sunday of Lent, The Prodigal Son.

Lent is about reconciliation... The reconciliation of the loving father and the prodigal son, the reconciliation of God and Man through Christ.

I love how in this parable the son rehearses his speech so carefully. He plans out all the words he's going to say to reconcile himself to his father. Yet, the father doesn't need any of his words or apologies. He doesn't even wait for the son to deliver his planned speech. He runs to welcome his son and shower him with love while he is still so far off.

How much more does God reach out to us to heal the rift we created? Praise God for His mercy and forgiveness.

Use this week to remember your own sin and feel the warmth of the Father's love...
